MIXED CHOIR “CANTARE” |
| |
| |
The choir was established in 1990. Vidmantas Ruzgys was the founder and the first director of the choir. In 1998 the choir became known as 'Cantare' choir. Since 2000 it has been managed by Artūras Dambrauskas.
Singers of various ages sing in the choir – students as well as teachers. Not all of them are professional musicians therefore the choir has acquired the status of 'amateur' choir. Nevertheless, it is not an obstacle to perform the truly professional and complicated choir music. While drawing up the repertoire special attention is devoted to modern choir music, in particular, the works of composers born in Klaipeda.
The choir regularly participates in town events and celebrations. It has organized many concerts of religious music in Lithuania's churches, takes part in festivals of religious music. The choir has participated in international festivals in: Zalcburg (Austria), Savigliano (Italy), Rügen, Berlin (Germany), Gdyn (Poland).
In 2004 in Mogilev (Belarus) at the international festival - competition 'Mogutnij boža' the choir won first place. The same year in Kaunas at the Youth Chamber Choir Sacred Music festival-competition 'Cantate Domino' it received Gold award.
In 2005 in Daugavpils (Latvia) at the international sacred music festival 'Silver Bells' ('Sudraba zvani') the choir won the first place.
